About me

Roxana Panetta

Painting, drawing, creating - my favorite pastime since early childhood. I'm in the flow, as they say. In kindergarten, at school: painting was always "my thing". When people asked me as a child what I wanted to be: a painter (sometimes a stewardess, as it was still called in the 1980s, a porcelain painter and a stonemason). More or less consistently an "A" in art at school the whole time. Right up to my A-levels. And then I chose a different path anyway: A university degree in economic and social communications. This became my profession, which I practice on my own for very much long now.

In 2023, I decide that I want to give it a try after all: to seriously finance my life with painting. So, let's get to work. Since 2023, my first project has been a series of portraits of women who, despite their outstanding achievements, have (almost) fallen into oblivion in the course of history and were not given an appropriate portrait during their own lifetimes. This is exactly what I want to do now and paint a wide variety of personalities in the style of the heroine's respective era. The discovery of a "revealing" portrait of the Venetian composer Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677) prompted me to examine the question of the representative portrait of women.

Preferred working method:

Painting in oil, drawings in ink, sketches in watercolor - or all at the same time

Artistic training:

No academic art career, but self-study, experimentation, courses and workshops with artists, observation, imitation, finding my own style - the things you do when you're on fire.
