What are Waste Lands?
Over the summer of 2023, numerous new paintings were created for a new portrait series. The artist uses the leftover paint on the palette to create a series of abstract landscape motifs based on canvases that were previously treated with ink paint using a random process. This randomness continues when the artist adds the remaining oil colours from the palette into and alongside these random ink areas. Here and there, moments of the figurative emerge, a tree, a cloud, a vast landscape - intentionally unintentional.
